Batavian Revolt

Today Albenga in Italy. Oppidum (Plin. HN 3,48) of the  Ligures (Ptol. 3,1,3; Str. 4,6,1),  municipium with  quattuorviri in the  regio IX , in the  tribus Publilia , on the via Iulia Augusta; harbour. Occupied in AD 69 by the followers of  Otho (Tac. Hist. 2,15). Birthplace of the usurper  Proculus (SHA Proculus 12); rebuilt by  Constantius (CIL V 7781). Late Roman and high medieval building phases; bishop's seat.
